4-Steps Process to Hiring a Contractor for a new Heating System

Replacing a furnace for a new one is comparable to searching for a surgeon. Just as an experienced physician assures a modicum of reliability, the same philosophy applies to hiring heating and air conditioning contractors to install the home’s heating and cooling system. Search online
Googling a contractor is one way to look. But do your research before choosing your contractor. Check their online reviews, look at their social media pages, see how long they have been in business. All of these things can help determine a valuable contractor.

Analyze credentials: On each heating and air conditioning contractor’s company website, make sure the company:

Compare each bid: Aside from analyzing the price of each bid, be sure to ask each heating and air conditioning contractor or company to answer the following questions:

  1. Which heating and cooling brands does the contractor use or recommend, and why? If the company recommends a specific brand, ask if there is a rebate or discount.
  2. Does the heating and air conditioning company outsource the installation to a local contractor or do they actually send one of their own technicians? Some companies outsource these installations. If the HVAC company does outsource your heating and cooling system to a local contractor, you are much better off to have a company who installs the system themselves. In the event that there’s a problem with the installation, it’s better dealing with a company that employs experts.
  3. Can the hvac contractor provide an approximation of hours needed to complete the installation? Although installations accompany many uncertainties, an inability to provide such information may indicate an inability to install accurately a heating and cooling system.
