80% Furnace Phase Out

80% Furnaces Are Going Away!

On May 1st, 2013, there is a new regulation that will be put into place by the zi furnaceDepartment of Energy that affects our St Louis Area customers. This regulation will require that the minimum efficiency on furnace installation will be 90% AFUE. This standard will apply to what is considered the Northern Regions, which includes Missouri & Illinois. This new regulation will make 80% efficient furnaces obsolete in our area.

This regulation will have an effect on those who currently have older units that may need to be replaced within the next few years. If you were considering replacing your existing unit with an 80% furnace, now is the time to do it because after May 1st, you will not be able to! In some homes, it is almost impossible to install the PVC venting that is required with a 90% or higher efficient furnace. We want you to be prepared for the changes, so call us today to find out more information on how this regulation will affect you, (314) 664-3011.

If you have an older furnace, are unsure if this will affect you as a homeowner, or are looking to possibly replace your furnace in the next few years, call Hoffmann Brothers today to get a free estimate or evaluation before May 1st, 2013, you can contact us anytime at (314) 664-3011 or bid@hoffmannbros.com">bid@hoffmannbros.com.

By calling one of our Comfort Advisors out to your home, here are some things they can go over with you as a homeowner:

  • Any rebates & offers going on for installing an 80% furnace now rather than later
  • Show your options on the cost of energy savings between an 80% and a 90% or higher furnace in your home
  • Determine if your home can have a 90% or higher efficiency furnace installed
  • Calculate possible additional installation costs required to install a 90% furnace in your home
  • Check to see if your home will have to have modifications after the mandate to your current HVAC system

If you would like to inquire about any of the above, request a bid or contact us at (314) 664-3011. This change is a result of the 2007 Energy Bill which set a precedent allowing the Department of Energy to establish the regional standards and installation locations.
